Project Overview:
Rapid Cortisol Sensor – When under stress the body produces a hormone called Cortisol. Continuously elevated cortisol levels due to stress are indicated in a number of medical conditions, including:
- Obesity, Type2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) and Strokes, Chronic Adrenal Fatigue, Mental health problems, Allergies, Asthma and Premature Ageing.
- In addition to the above, abnormal cortisol levels have profound effects in sports, veterinary welfare and pregnancy.
Biovici has developed a Point-of-Care prototype sensor capable of detecting cortisol in saliva. A similar method of use as Blood Glucose Monitors (different technology) which is adaptable to a mobile platform. It is planned to develop Point-of-Care tests for the following hormones:
- Serotonin
- Noradrenaline and or Adrenaline
- HgH Human Growth Hormone
- Melatonin
- DHEA
- Dopamine
This project will be carried out in collaboration with Biovici and University College Cork The project has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme
